Seriously Thrifty Vacations, Part 2

Continued from Part 1...

ACTIVITIES:
We chose to do a lot of free things, such as play at parks, explore the Alamo (yay, we made it!  And no, there is not a basement), and walk the San Antonio riverwalk.  We chose to spend money on a few specific activities, such as the San Antonio Children’s Museum, and the train at the Zoo.

EATING:
We brought our breakfast with us in a cooler, and purchased some picnics at the local grocery store.  We ate out for Mexican one night, which always proves inexpensive, since Caleb always happily makes a meal out of chips, beans, and rice.  We did a little searching online and found some restaurants that offer free kid’s meals.  Did you know Chick-fil-a offers one free kid’s meal with the purchase of an entrée on Tuesday evenings?  Guess where we spent our Tuesday evening?  Not to mention the bonus of an indoor playground, and a clown making sword balloons (not such a bonus for us, the parents).

Can't live in Texas and not see the Alamo...

We stopped at Cabela's on the way home...Eerie for us adults, but Caleb and Sam LOVED the display of dead animals. ("Mommy, mommy, there's a SNOW BEAR!"  i.e. a stuffed polar bear--for real!)   P.S.  Don't go if you're a vegetarian.

We had a great time, and are looking forward to more Wallace-family-grad-school-budget-vacations in the future!
